Mainstream media gives GOP 87% negative press in midterm run-up: study

Republican candidates are facing substantially more scrutiny in the mainstream media than Democrats leading up to the midterm elections, with news outlets airing negative coverage of the GOPers 87% of the time, a new study found. Democrats, meanwhile, were on the receiving end of bad press 67% of the time, according to the study conducted by the conservative Media Research Center . The study of ABC, CBS and NBC’s nightly newscasts also found that President Biden is drawing far less criticism in 2022 than former President Donald Trump did during the 2018 midterm elections.  Trump accounted for 48% of all midterm campaign airtime on nightly newscasts in 2018, more than all the congressional and gubernatorial candidates combined, and it was mostly negative, according to MRC.  Herschel Walker hasn’t made many fans in the media while on the campaign trail for the Georgia Senate seat against Raphael Warnock. President Biden’s Wednesday night speech was met with derision by a number of prominent Republicans, with some calling it the “most divisive” address ever given by a commander-in-chief. DOJ considering special counsel if Trump runs in 2024: report

The Justice Department is reportedly discussing the possibility of appointing a special counsel to oversee active federal investigations related to former President Donald Trump if he decides to launch a 2024 campaign.  Trump is being probed by the DOJ over his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and for his alleged mishandling of top secret documents stored at his Mar-a-Lago estate. According to reports, Trump is very likely to announce his third presidential run after the Nov. 8 midterm elections.  DOJ officials are debating whether appointing a special counsel would protect the Justice Department from claims that the Biden administration is going after his top political rival, sources told CNN .  The final say will be up to AG Garland, who must also make decisions involving probes into President Biden’s son, Hunter, and Florida Rep. President Biden told an audience in New Mexico Thursday that he was a professor after leaving the vice presidency, despite never properly assuming that role.  Biden slipped in the comment while touting the amount of time he has spent with Chinese President Xi Jinping.  “I spent more time with Xi Jinping of China than any world leader has. When I was vice president and when I was out of the office for four years and I was a professor, and now president,” Biden said. White House may have violated law by deleting fact-checked tweet: watchdog

A watchdog group is calling for a federal investigation into a tweet that the White House deleted this week, arguing that the Biden administration may have violated the Presidential Records Act.  Protect the Public’s Trust, a nonpartisan organization, argued there are “serious questions” over whether presidential record-keeping protocols were properly followed before the White House on Wednesday deleted the widely mocked tweet taking credit for a boost in retirees’ Social Security checks. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Friday attempted to clarify President Biden’s vow to “free Iran,” saying that he was simply “expressing our solidarity” with the young protesters there. “Don’t worry, we’re gonna free Iran. They’re gonna free themselves pretty soon,” Biden said during a rally at MiraCosta College near San Diego, California. The president didn’t offer any details on specific actions that his administration would take to “free Iran.”  Jean-Pierre later told reporters aboard Air Force One: “The president was expressing our solidarity with the protesters as he has been doing from the very onset.” She noted that the administration has leveled sanctions against the Iranian regime and that Biden “spoke very loud and clear” in support of demonstrators during a speech at the United Nations in September.
