Erika Jayne says she was joking about PK, Dorit Kemsley breakup

Image
Erika Jayne is backtracking on her comments about Dorit and Paul “PK” Kemsley’s marriage. After PK shaded Jayne on Instagram for claiming his marriage was on the rocks, the “Pretty Mess” singer commented on his post claiming it was all in good fun. “When did you get so sensitive? You know damn well I was joking..” the reality star wrote. Erika Jayne claims she was joking about friends PK and Dorit Kemsley’s potential split. Instagram/theprettymess Over the weekend, Jayne predicted her “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” co-stars would be the next Bravolebrities to divorce during a panel at BravoCon. After being asked which relationship was headed to “Splitsville,” the 51-year-old initially dodged the question, saying she felt “bad.” However, she quickly changed her tune and marched to centerstage before revealing “Dorit and PK.” PK and Dorit have both spoken out about Jayne’s comments. BlackRock letting more clients vote in dramatic move

Image
BlackRock, the world’s biggest asset manager, said Thursday it would expand the number of clients eligible to choose how to vote at company annual meetings on everything from executive pay to climate strategy. The “Voting Choice” program announced last year by the $8 trillion asset manager could reshape corporate elections both by making shareholders more involved and by diminishing the political criticism BlackRock faces from liberals and conservatives alike. BlackRock  said in a statement that at the end of September clients with around $1.8 trillion in equity index assets managed by the company were eligible for voting choices and that clients with $452 billion were doing so. “My hope is that in the future, every investor — ultimately including individual investors — has access to voting choice, if they want it,” Chief Executive Larry Fink said in a letter to clients and company chief executives seen by Reuters. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink...

How Putin’s dream of a new Russian empire was destroyed on the fields of Ukraine

Image
[ad_1] Admittedly, the destruction inflicted by the Russian war machine has been colossal – unprecedented in Europe, indeed, since 1945. The Ukrainians may have suffered an even greater combined death toll of combatants and civilians, besides many more wounded and traumatised.  Several million Ukrainians have become refugees and up to three million, mainly women and children, have been taken to Russia, most of them against their will, to a fate still unknown. The cost of reconstruction, already at least $1 trillion (£830bn), is rising by the day. In the course of its war of annihilation and occupation of large parts of Ukraine, the Russian Army has left behind convincing evidence of thousands of war crimes and crimes against humanity.  The possibility that military and political leaders, up to and including Putin himself, may end up being arraigned before a court in The Hague has raised the stakes in this conflict. Neither side can afford to lose. No Russian autocrat has ever g...

Major Ukrainian record label cuts ties with French music giant over refusal to pull out of Russia

Image
[ad_1] One of Ukraine’s largest record labels has severed ties with €1bn (£880m) French music giant Believe over its refusal to pull out of Russia. Mozgi Entertainment said it would stop working with the music distribution group amid accusations that the French company is still actively operating in Russia. Iryana Horova, who founded Mozgi alongside husband and singer Potap, said the label had begun withdrawing its music catalogue from Believe after discovering it was still operating in the “enemy market”. Mozgi’s catalogue includes more than 2,000 songs. The move throws fresh scrutiny on Believe, which has been criticised by MPs in Britain for its continued operations in Russia. The company is one of France's largest tech companies. It helps promote artists and independent labels on social media and places their music on streaming platforms. Believe has worked with artists including La Roux, Razorlight and Björk. In March the company, which operates in around 50 countrie...

‘Latte levy’ set to take effect as Ireland plans to ban disposable cups

Image
[ad_1] Disposable coffee cups are set to be banned in Ireland as new laws come into force clamping down on single-use plastics. In a move that will be carefully watched by Whitehall officials, a so-called “latte levy” will come into force “as early as possible” in the new year. The tax will start at 20 cents and could rise to €1 under new laws agreed earlier this year. The crackdown puts Ireland on the path to outlawing single-use coffee cups by 2026. Britain has so far refrained proposing an outright ban on coffee cups. The Government consulted on plans to ban single-use plastic plates, cutlery, balloon sticks, polystyrene cups and food and beverage containers in England. Officials are now reviewing responses to the consultation, which closed in February. The reforms in Ireland are part of the country’s Circular Economy and Miscellaneous Provisions Act that was signed into law this summer. A spokesman for Ireland’s Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications s...

Britain faces spike in divorces and unhappiness next year as wages fall below those of France

Image
[ad_1] "There remains a strong relationship between economic conditions – as measured by the sum of unemployment and inflation rates – and happiness indices," said Mr Kupelian, who added that next year the average weekly shop was likely to hit £100 for the first time. Mr Kupelian added that experience from the previous financial crisis in 2008 suggested the negative economic impact would be "felt for some years”. PwC said the average British worker was on course to earn £35,318 in 2022 after accounting for inflation, just behind the average French worker, at £35,667. This is despite the average full time worker in France working 38.7 hours a week, compared with 41.3 hours in Britain, according to OECD data. French earnings are expected to fall by less than 1pc in real terms next year to £35,462, while British workers are predicted to suffer a 2pc decline, to £34,643. "The UK has been harder hit by inflation pressures than France," said Jake Finney, an ...

Elon Musk asks Twitter users to vote on his future as chief executive

Image
[ad_1] Mr Musk's tenure as boss of the social network has been a whirlwind of turmoil since he completed his ($44bn) £38bn takeover in October. He has sacked 4,000 staff - more than half of its workforce - and last night declared war on Twitter’s social media rivals by banning the promotion of their accounts from his platform.  Last week, Mr Musk reinstated the Twitter accounts of several journalists that were suspended for a day over a controversy on publishing public data about the billionaire's plane. Former SpaceX executive quits British rocket start-up

Image
[ad_1] A former SpaceX executive has quit British rocket start-up Skyrora less than six months after he joined. Lee Rosen, who had joined Edinburgh-headquartered Skyrora as its chief operating officer, left the company in November, according to his LinkedIn profile. A Skyrora spokesman said Mr Rosen had left for “personal reasons” and planned to return to California. It is the latest blow to the space venture that is hoping to use a rocket base on the Shetland islands to fire small satellites into space. The company’s first suborbital launch test of its Skylark L rocket from a pad in Iceland failed, with the rocket crashing into the Norwegian ocean about 500 metres from the coast. The company blamed the failure on a “software related anomaly”. However, despite so far failing to get a successful launch into orbit, revenues at Skyrora Ventures, its parent company, soared 300pc last year. According to the company’s annual report, revenues jumped from £3.8m to £15.2m. It reporte...

How foreign states raided Britain’s crown jewels

Image
[ad_1] Was the Cameron government naive or has the world just become a lot more worrisome in recent years? Probably a bit of both. Either way, the UK has been attempting to disentangle Chinese investment from crucial infrastructure. Following mounting pressure from Washington, the UK decided to ban Huawei and other vendors it considered to be a high security risk from its 5G networks in 2020. In November, after months of prevaricating, the Government blocked the sale of Newport Wafer Fab, the UK’s largest semiconductor plant, to Chinese-owned Nexperia. It also bought the Chinese state-owned power group CGN out of its stake in the Sizewell C nuclear energy project in Suffolk.  Under a long-standing deal, CGN, which the US placed on an export blacklist back in 2019 after Washington accused it of stealing American know-how for military purposes, invested in Hinkley Point C power station in Somerset; then Sizewell C, which has just been given the green light; and is still technicall...
