Bono opens book tour before adoring fans at Beacon Theatre

Image
Bono opened his book tour Wednesday night in what he called a “transgressive” mood, a little bit guilty for appearing on stage with three musicians who were not his fellow members of U2 and otherwise singing, joking and shouting out his life story to thousands of adoring fans at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre. He even performed one song in Italian, a flawlessly operatic take of “Torna a Surriento.” “This is all a little surreal,” he noted at one point. “But it seems to be going well.” The 62-year-old singer, songwriter and humanitarian described himself as an eternal boy (born Paul David Hewson) with his fists “in the air,” a “grandstanding” rock star and a baritone trying to be a tenor. He is now a published and best-selling author, his “Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story” out this week and already in the top 10 on Amazon.com. Through “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “Where the Streets Have No Name” and other U2 classics, he traces his biography from his st...

'The View' co-host Sunny Hostin under fire for white women jab

Image
“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin is under fire for likening white women who vote Republican to “roaches voting for Raid.” Hostin, 54, made the controversial comment on Thursday’s episode of the ABC daytime show as she and her co-hosts discussed next week’s midterm elections. Hostin expressed surprise that women are planning to cast their ballots for lawmakers who celebrated the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade. “I read a poll just yesterday that white, Republican, suburban women are now going to vote Republican. It’s almost like roaches voting for Raid, right?” Hostin remarked. Her comparison was rejected by Republican co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, who angrily snapped, “That’s insulting to the voter!” [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhXygpyqPkY[/embed] Hostin’s comparison was rejected by Republican co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin (right). who angrily snapped, “That’s insulting to the voter!” ABC Hostin’s remark sparked cont...

'It's an homage, and it's hysterical

Image
Tyler Alvarez, who co-stars in the new Netflix comedy “Blockbuster,” said that the cast didn’t see it as ironic for the streaming giant to make a show about a business that died partly because of Netflix.  “I think [the show] is a homage to Blockbuster,” Alvarez, 25, told The Post. “I think it’s a love letter to that time, and it’s a love letter to movies. That’s what it means to me, and for all of us involved in making it. We stayed accurate to the uniform in the costumes. We wanted to portray it accurately.”   Now streaming , the workplace comedy was created by Vanessa Ramos (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) and revolves around the employees of the last remaining Blockbuster video rental store in the world. There’s manager Timmy (Randall Park); Eliza (Melissa Fumero), who is recently separated from her husband and is also Timmy’s longtime crush; eccentric Connie (Olga Merediz); ditzy Hannah (Madeline Arthur); and Carlos Herrera (Alvarez), an immigrant wh...

Literally, I was thinking on my own, if I had a choice, I would do it (in the US).” “I was thinking about ‘Fifth Harmony,’ I was thinking about Camila (Cabello), and I was just thinking about how much fun we had,” Cowell revealed. Cabello, the now 25-year-old singer-songwriter, achieved success on “The X Factor” after a failed solo audition, in which the TV personality willed her to the stage. “She wasn’t really supposed to audition,” Cowell explained. “I happened to go backstage and I s...

The Pope will make it clear when your time is up! Marcus Mumford revealed his awkward encounter with Pope Francis during his recent trip to the Vatican. The 35-year-old Mumford & Sons frontman was invited to meet with the leader of the Catholic Church and was excited about the rare experience as he “wanted to hear him.” Mumford, along with a handful of other artists , attended the “Vitae Summit” at the Vatican this summer to start a dialogue on how to use the arts to foster a culture of hope and unity. Near the end of his visit, the “I Will Wait” hitmaker received the opportunity to pray with His Holiness. When he joined the cast, he didn’t know any of the actors personally, even though some worked in the standup and comedy worlds. However, he quickly came to the realization that they were all such close f...

Cops find 'The Crown' fake corpse in river, nearly start murder probe

Image
Props from the fictional Netflix series “The Crown” almost resulted in a real-life murder investigation. While shooting on location for Season 5 in February, thieves stole two large trucks full of antique props from the set and even dumped some of the pieces in a nearby river. One of the items discarded was an incredibly realistic dummy corpse that was going to be used in Episode 6, which includes a flashback in which the Romanovs, a Russian royal family, are shot and stabbed by Bolshevik revolutionaries. The executioners later bury the corpses in a mass grave in the woods before Queen Elizabeth II asks Russian leader Boris Yelstin to give the family a proper burial. “I think the most amusing bit was the police were treating it as a murder inquiry because one of the dummies, the prosthetics, was floating face down in the river next to where the theft had been, so they immediately thought, ‘We’ve got a murder,’ but actually it was just a rub...
