Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has conceded that he has not helped himself with his defending at times this season after failing to start a single game at the World Cup for England.
Liverpool endured a difficult start to the season under Jurgen Klopp, with Alexander-Arnold's defending being questioned on multiple occasions by fans and pundits.
This led to him falling down the pecking order at international level as he made just one substitute appearance against Wales in Qatar, with Gareth Southgate preferring Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier instead.

Alexander-Arnold feels his defending has been criticised more frequently this season, particularly in the build-up to the World Cup, but has hinted that some of this has been fair as he was not at his best prior to the tournament.
'I think part of me thinks there's been a lot more spotlight on it (his defending). I think that was due to the World Cup and people kind of thinking if I'm not playing then it's because of that reason, and people hone in on that,' Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports after Liverpool's 2-1 win against Leicester on Friday night.
'I think some of it, I've not helped myself in certain situations throughout the season, I'll hold my hands up to that. In situations, I could have been better.'
Alexander-Arnold's attacking game has never been a concern, with the right-back regularly providing assists for Liverpool from the wing.
However, his defensive work has become an issue at times, with Gary Neville labelling his decision-making 'rash' following a particularly shaky display against Tottenham last month.
Alexander-Arnold has revealed that he is determined to improve his defending in order to take his game to the next level.
Alexander-Arnold picked up the man of the match award against Leicester and has revealed he is working on improving the defensive side of his game
'I think it is a part of my game that I do try and work on, I do try and focus on, I do try and help the team win games. I think the clean sheet is the most important thing,' he added.
The 24-year-old put in a much-improved performance against Leicester on Friday night, and was given the man of the match award after making a number of crucial tackles and interceptions as the Foxes pushed for a late equaliser.
He confirmed afterwards that he has been carefully studying his own game, which paid off in his latest outing, but acknowledged that he still has further improvements to make.
'I think it is mostly individually, seeing what you've done right, what you've done wrong, analysing each game, seeing your footwork, your patterns, if you're crossing your feet over, why someone has beat you, got you off balance,' he continued.
'And just sometimes you're up against a world-class winger and he is going to get the better of you, but I think there's been times where I could have done better.'
